Invisalign - Long Island City, NY.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic dental procedure that uses clear aligners to straighten your teeth. Since the aligners are clear they are often referred to as "invisible braces".

These trays must be worn all day long. You can take them out just to eat and drink but you should brush/floss and put them right back in afterwards.

If you don't wear them for at least 20-22 hours per day, the teeth may not move. The reason for this long period of wear is to make it comparable to metal braces which stay on your teeth 24/7.

Typically you will switch out to a new set of Invisalign tray every 1-2 weeks depending on your treatment schedule. It is one of the many dental services which our office offers.

Signs you may benefit from Invisalign

Orthodontic treatment in general, which includes Invisalign is an electivc cosmetic procedure. However having straighter teeth does make them easier to clean and will improve gum health.

The process of getting Invisalign in Long Island City

The Invisalign process is a lengthy treatment which comes with multiple phases. Here is what you should expect if you decide to get it with one of our LIC dentists.

  1. Consultation

  2. Take orthodontic records and review plan

  3. Starting treatment

  4. Finishing treatment

The Consultation Visit

The first visit will always be a consultation, although we can do this during your dental check up and cleaning visit as well. That way we save you from coming back a second time.

What to expect:

  • Examination of all of your teeth.

  • Answer all of your pre-treatment questions in regards to what to expect.

  • Submit to your insurance to see if you have orthodontic coverage.

  • Discuss financing and payment options for the treatment.

Orthodontic Records

Once you're heard back from your insurance and have the finances taken care of you may proceed by taking orthodontic records. These records are submitted to Invisalign and they will return a plan back for you for view. It will show you exactly how they plan to move the teeth and also what needs to be done such as placing attachments and making spacing.

What the records include:

  • Impressions/Molds of upper and lower teeth.

  • Photos of your teeth and facial profile

Starting Treatment

  1. Place attachments which are translucent bondings that are placed on your teeth. Their purpose is to provide anchorage and leverage for the aligners to move your teeth.

  2. Give instructions on how to use the Invisalign trays such as the Dos and Don'ts.

  3. Your dentist will give you a schedule of when to check back in for monitoring of the teeth movement progress.

Finishing Treatment

  1. Once you've finished aligning all of your teeth, the attachments can be removed.

  2. Your dentist will need to order you the permanent retainers to wear at night time.

After Invisalign, we will give you the Vivera retainers, which comes in a set of 4. Each set should last you about 1.5 years each.

However if you lose one or break one, you can move onto the next set.

You should aim to wear them every night when you sleep to prevent the teeth from moving.
